A factory in Barangay Ugong, Valenzuela City caught fire earlier today leaving at least 5 deaths and as many as 70 people still unaccounted for. The blaze has already reached Task Force Charlie as of posting time.

According to netizens, fire broke out at around 10:00 a.m. today, May 13 after a piece of welding equipment exploded and quickly set fire to materials inside the factory.

Citizens in near the vicinity reported that only four workers managed to get out and almost 100 people is still trapped inside the factory. One of the relatives of a factory employee also said that they received a text message from the people inside the burning building.

Meanwhile, Valenzuela City Mayor Rex Gatchalian said that efforts to rescue the trapped workers are now ongoing and firemen are now doing what they can to take the fire out.

UPDATE: "Ongoing fire in a factory in Ugong, Valenzuela City now on Task Force Charlie. Mayor REX tells the media that the city has coordinated with BFP to extinguish the fire. We're still determining how many factory workers are trapped inside. The cause of fire is due to a welding activity near a chemical compound. Our Valenzuela City Police have also provided assistance on crowd control. Also concerned city government offices are now providing assistance on this incident.
