Long before he became Manny Pacquiao's coach, Freddie Roach was also a boxer who fought many bouts. His record is 40 wins and 13 losses three of which he lost by knock out.

In 1981, Roach won the New England Featherweight title and would later challenge for the ESPN Super Featherweight title in 1983. Unfortunately he lost. The same fate he met when he challenged for the ESPN Junior Lightweight title in 1984. His last match was in 1986 for the World Boxing Championship Continental Americas Lightweight title but also lost by unanimous decision. Later that year he retired.
