A video supposedly of a mermaid taken in London Beach resort in General Santos (Gensan), Philippines is now making the rounds in social media. The footage was shot and uploaded by FB user Jovelyn Balinas yesterday April 28.

In the video, it can be observed that there is a fish-like creature in the water with features similar to a mermaid as depicted in movies and television programs. At one point the creature emerged exposing its back and what appears to be a red-orange long hair flowing from its head.

While the creature seen in the video does have features of a mermaid as told in myths, it is hard to tell for sure because the video is grainy and blurry. It could be an optical illusion from the moving water which gives it an odd appearance. But the uploader of the video insists that what she beheld on that day was nonetheless a mermaid. See the footage for yourself below.

According to myths and folklore, a mermaid is a female half human half fish creature that dwells in the sea. It is also called by other names such as siren or sirena. In Philippines, the mermaid is often associated with its male counterpart: the syokoy (not to be confused with shoke).

Previously we posted a story about a recent UFO sightings in Pampanga and now a mermaid caught on cellphone camera in Gensan. Things are getting interesting lately. What do you think of this story?
