News reports say that the Philippine government will start blocking off online adult content on most devices.

Philippines to block adult contentDuring a Public-Private Dialogue on Areas of Collaboration to Stop Online Child Abuse in Makati City on Wednesday, October 29, Justice Secretary Leila de Lima said, "“Mindful of our laws and our policy targets as a member of the Global Alliance, we can devise ways to combat online child sexual abuse effectively and in a manner consistent with our democratic principles,”

“The DOJ (Department of Justice) is working with telcos for a filtering software to restrict access to adult content/banned sites as we fight against online child sexual abuse,” she said.

De Lima said the campaign to block online pornography aims at preventing a couple of things: children falling victims to online exploitation by being used in the production of pornographic content and children getting access to legal pornography earlier than the allowed age.

She also said that according to PNP and NBI, roughly 46 percent or 200 cybercrime cases that authorities are handling are related to online child abuse.

However, Department of Justice Secretary Leila De Lima believes that this issue cannot be solved by government alone that is why the government is getting help from the private sectors as well as internet service providers to develop a system that will filter adult content on most devices such as phones, home computers and public Wi-FI networks.
