Commision on Elections (COMELEC) Chairman Sixto Brillantes Jr said on Thurday, November 29 that they will only allow 79 groups to run in the 2013 party-list race.

Brillantes also said that if the Commision will accredit more groups, it will no be more than 5. The officially approved party-list groups was cut down to only less than a third, or only 27% of the original 289 applicants for 2013 elections.

Controversila groups like Gabriela, Anakpawis, An Waray and Buhay are just a few that has been included in the list of the allowed to run for 2013.

With the poll body disqulaifying incumbent groups for the first time since the party-list was introduced, this is unprecedented for the COMELEC, said Brillantes.

Meanwhile, the Comelec cancelled the accreditation of the following groups: 1st Kabagis, 1-Utak and Senior Citizen Party. It was also reported that the new application of the group Alona was denied.
