PAGASA reported Saturday, July 28, 2012 that Bagyong Gener intensified rapidly into a tropical storm while moving towards a north northwest direction.

The bureau has hoisted storm warning signal No. 1 over the areas of Isabela, Cagayan, Calayaan Group of Islands, Batanes Group of Islands and Babuyan Group of Islands.

The bureau also said that, as estimated based on satellite and surface data, Bagyong Gener is at 250 kilometer northeast of Virac, Cataduanes (15.4°N, 126.3°E) at 4pm.

Bagyong Gener is packing sustained winds of 65kph near the center and gustiness of up to 80kph. By Sunday afternoon, July 29, it is expected to be some 290 km of Casiguran, Aurora and about 130 km northeast of Basco, Batanes by Monday afternoon.

Due to this bad weather, PAGASA alerted residents living in low lying and mountainous areas under storm warning signal number 1 of possible flash floods and landslides.

PAGASA added that the tropical storm will yield estimated heavy to intense rainfall amount of 10 to 25 mm per hour within its 500 km diameter.

DOn't forget to bring umbrellas and raincoats if you are in the areas mentioned. Due to this tropical storm, the Southwest Monsoon can be enhanced and that will bring rains over Southern Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao.
